Are you planning to get the car plate through Vehicle Registration Number or VRN bidding? Are you wondering whether your preferred VRN is still available?
When buying a new car, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) automatically assigns VRN once your vehicle dealer registers your car. If you are here, you are one of the many people who prefer to have their choice of VRN displayed on their cars.
You can participate in VRN bidding to get your choice of plate before buying a new car.
But how to find out if the VRN you want is available?
In this article, we provide step-by-step guides to check for the available VRN in LTA car plate bidding. You can also watch the process from this video.
Steps on how to check available plates for VRN bidding
There are two types of VRN bidding conducted by LTA, which are the main bidding exercise and weekly bidding exercise.
When a new prefix is launched, you secure the car plate you want through the main bidding exercise. Meanwhile, the weekly bidding exercise is where you can bid for the VRNs that are left from the main bidding exercise.
Before participating in VRN bidding, it is important to check whether or not your preferred number is available.
Here are the steps to search for VRNs that are up for grabs.

In the menu bar, click Buying → Upfront Vehicle Cost → Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
They’ll take you to a page where you can find all the information regarding VRN. From a brief overview of the regulations and details about LTA number bidding.
Step 3: Click Check VRN Available
In the At A Glance section, there will be a table displaying concise information mentioned in the page. Find Related Digital Services then click Check VRN Available.

Step 5: Pick a prefix
Next, they will show available prefixes for that vehicle type. Click on the one you want.
Step 6: Search for the VRN

If available, they will show you the car plate number you searched for. On the other hand, they will inform you the number is not available in the red fonts.
